Anthropic Donates Agent Skills to the Linux Foundation: One Skill, Every Agent You Run (2026)
Agent Skills now belong to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation. One skill runs in 70+ agents. What it means for your agent's forms.

Agent Skills, the open standard that teaches an AI agent a specific task, no longer belongs to Anthropic. On October 22 the company donated the standard to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, the same home it gave the Model Context Protocol. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms already run skills, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code. So far, 1 million skills exist and nearly 280 million were installed.
If you run agents that build forms, this is a quiet but useful change. Here is what moved and who maintains it now. Then, why a skill is the simplest way to teach every agent you own how to use dForms.
What Anthropic announced
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that teaches an agent a task or a domain. It can carry scripts or reference material too. Anthropic built the format while working on Claude Code and launched it in October 2025. Within weeks, developers wrote loaders for Codex, Cursor and OpenCode, so Anthropic published it as an open standard in December 2025.
What moves to the foundation: the Agent Skills name and logo, the GitHub organization and the agentskills.io domain. What does not change: the specification itself. You can also keep using it or contributing without joining the foundation. Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and other companies will maintain the standard as individuals. David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag are the lead maintainers. The first proposed roadmap covers versioned releases, a formal proposal process and security guidance for skill authors.
Why this matters if your agent builds forms
Most teams do not run one agent. They run Claude for writing, Cursor for code, and maybe ChatGPT for the sales team. So teaching each one how to build a lead form, score the answers and route the hot ones meant three setups.
Agent Skills turn that into one folder. The procedural knowledge lives in SKILL.md: which fields a qualification form needs, how to assign points, when to show the booking step. Any agent that reads the standard picks it up. Now a neutral foundation backs the format, with maintainers from three model labs. As a result, a skill written today will most likely still load next year.
That is how dForms, the form builder for AI agents, ships its own know-how. There is a downloadable skill for agents that use the API, and the MCP connector for agents that prefer tools. The skill carries the facts an agent needs to do the job well. For example, forms built through the API record that they came from api. Keys act with the role of the person who created them. And 120 calls a minute per key is the limit to respect. The AI form generator guide shows what an agent does with that knowledge.
Try it with dForms
Connect your agent through the dForms MCP server at mcp.dforms.ai or with an API key from the Developers page. Then ask it to write the skill your team will reuse:
Write an agent skill (a SKILL.md folder) that teaches any agent how to build
a B2B lead qualification form in dForms: the fields to ask, points per answer
(budget and a start date within 30 days score highest), the Hot, Warm and Cold buckets,
and when to show the calendar booking step. Then use the skill to create the form,
leave it in draft and send me the preview link.
The agent writes the skill, builds the form from it and returns the draft. Then hand the same folder to Cursor or ChatGPT, and they build the same form. For the scoring rules to put in it, start from the 25 question lead qualification template.
Frequently asked questions
What are Agent Skills?
Agent Skills is an open standard for teaching AI agents a specific task. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file plus scripts and references. Anthropic created it in 2025 and donated it to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation on October 22, 2026.
Does the donation change how my skills work?
No. The specification is the same, and you can keep using it without joining the foundation. What changed is who governs it: a neutral foundation with maintainers from several companies.
Can I use one skill with Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT?
Yes. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms have integrated Agent Skills, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code. So a skill that teaches an agent to build forms in dForms works in any of them.
